Blue & Yellow Tansy

Every now and then~ something fun to stitch on.
Tansy!
Sharing the yellow that goes with my blue spice jar~
I have had so much fun stitching my yellow blossom heads.
I knew they would be pretty as single buttons~ even if it took me months.
They stitch up quickly!

Sharing little notes on most photographs.
My foundation cloth is heavy weight wool.

Both wool pieces are mottled blue. One dark, one pale.

I arranged & stapled all of the button blossoms at the same time.
The stapled pieces stayed in place nicely.

I like to use #12 weight Valdani threads, variegated.

I save all of my wool scrap bits and pieces...
Perfect way to add variety and texture without the expense
of purchasing many different colors.
You could also purchase a mottled yellow for color variety.

My small thread minder has a magnet stitched inside.
Perfect for keeping track of staples as I slide them out.

Sewline fabric glue stick~
Allowed me to curve and shape my narrow stems!

The tansy in our garden is happily invasive~
Each year the patch moves out 8"-10''
Something later in the summer for bees to enjoy!

Hope your Friday is off to a great start, Friends~
Thank you for stopping by!

"Neighbor to Neighbor" copyright 2020 Michelle L. Palmer

Sharing what we have~
Gathering groceries for elderly friends, checking with
each other before we run errands to protect and connect.
How we love our neighbors, near and far.

Chickadee was wondering if Wren had a few
straight pins she could borrow...

Hope you're staying strong and healthy~
Take good care, Friends <3 nbsp="" p="">

Red Fox visit

Our blanket of white has almost completely melted.
Early Sunday morning I peeked out the window for a weather check and
something caught my attention!
Trotting through the back field~
Perhaps returning home from an overnight shift...
Mr. Red Fox

Red fox is so very beautiful and so very helpful.
He and his family will help keep a healthy, natural, balance~
Our ever-growing concern with Lyme disease often begins with
the (adorable and sweet) White-footed mouse.
Rodents have been sampling more vegetables from our garden
than we have! They're becoming a concern.
I strive to remain chemical free and organic.
Praying Mr. Fox meets a local Miss and begin a family
in our neighborhood.

A quick sketch on Sunday so that I would remember
how beautiful the morning was and our special visitor.
The sky was pale gray & light blue with a soft peach glow!

Took a few minutes this morning to add color while
waiting for a special order to completely dry...
The cookie butter needed to warm up to room temperature, too~

Hope your travels are safe and that your hearts are happy, Friends!
Wishing you a joy-filled season~

Blackbird Wool Hooked Rug

'Blackbird on a Sunny Flower' Fraktur #2 of 6 copyright 2019 Michelle L. Palmer
Illustration copyright 2010

Inspired by summer walks along the Erie Canal~
Poison Sumac leaves and blossoms are so pretty (from a distance)
The leaves hang similar to the top arch~ turning crimson in the Fall.
The blossoms are beautiful~ I made mine salmon, a little lighter than true.
Every now and then a sunflower blossom will pop up
along the pathway edge.
Chipmunks and squirrels drop some of their bird feeder stash
and they take seed in unexpected places!

I included a photograph of my 'Fraktur & Flourish'
pen & ink with watercolor illustration
that inspired the summery piece~

The bird and I had a few closed door meetings.
Feather colors were changed a few times and if I stare at it
for too long I get thinking the wing could still be a different color!

I just LOVE how the warmth and texture of wool is bringing new life
to my collection of walnut ink illustrations!

I draw my patterns by hand on primitive linen.
Finished rug size is 24" wide by 22" tall (actual hooked area)
3.5" to 4" border around the entire design
allowing ample room for your frame.
I take care to keep the lines straight of the grain.
Linen edges are taped to prevent fraying. I use green Frog Brand tape.
It is available through my Etsy shop:

It will be a while for number three in the series to be completed~
Free time is shared with gardening and sunsets...
How we have waited for Spring to arrive!

Wishing your hearts happiness~
Always!

Joyful Spring~

Sweet Friends~
I hope your Spring days are filled with joy!

Pussy willows follow their own calendar~
They're not waiting for the snow to stop falling!
Went for a nice long walk along the Erie Canal trail with my neighbor today.
The sky was so blue!
Sun on our shoulders...
Canada geese filled areas of the canal waters. They were so chatty!
They are here with us throughout the winter months but
many traveling flocks stop here with the snow geese.

Came home and noticed that the pussy willow buds were completely open!
Lopped off some of the tallest branches for bouquets to share &
left some to open for the bees that will be seeking nourishment soon~

Hope you have a wonderful week, Friends!
Thanks so much for stopping by~

December Hoar Frost

Every blade of grass~

Every gently twisted tendril~

Blanketed with frosted crystals.

December shared one more beautiful and peaceful dawn~

The field dances with dried plants~
Still plenty of seeds available for our feathered friends.
Still standing after coatings of ice, feet of snow and blustery winds!

Wishing you a safe, happy and joyful New Years Eve!

Praying your New Year is filled with peace, love and great health~
Thank you for sharing your year with me!
I hope you will join me here again throughout 2019!

August Girls~

"The Girls" copyright 2018 Michelle L. Palmer

The Girls in August pastures~
Hills and meadows have become dry and golden from our warm summer days.
It's milking time for the ladies and they're gathering a quick
snack before crossing.

A slow August breeze passes over the grasses just out of their reach~
I hope August takes it time and stays awhile.

The Girls have been very patient...
Work & projects keep popping up in front of them.
Sometimes that is the perfect pace for some pieces!
I get to look at them and ponder...
Look at them and get fresh perspective!
My punch needle design will be different from the original watercolor...
Propped up in my little studio~ they're telling a different story!

Hope your August days are filled with creative projects!
Thank you for stopping by, Friends~

Last day of May~

Hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend, Friends~
Always grateful to spend time with family and`
remember with respect, those who gave so much.

Lilacs have shared their scent... now the air is filled with honeysuckle!

~Solomon's Seal~
The gardens are filled with blossoms... and weeds.
I grab a handful of weeds every time I take our pup for a walk!
He grabs a mouthful of what I toss aside and shakes them.
He let's them know who's boss!
(giggle)

I have added my first rug hooking pattern to my Etsy shop!
'I Love You to the Moon and Back' is hand drawn on natural linen.

My edges are taped on this pattern~
Will sew them eventually.
Learning as I go!
I took care to keep the lines straight of the grain...
That was my goal for this pattern!

I hope you have a great weekend, Friends~
Welcoming June with bouquets of Dame's Rocket!
