Somethin' for Buffy...

Hi Buff!
I finally finished this fun little
project...it's a journal/scrapbook!
Blank pages~
Be looking for it in the mail!

Still loving the BOXES of seaside
treasures you sent!
The paintings from your shell
inspirations will be
popping up on products soon!

Vintage Papers...

Every now & again...the perfect finds!
Early in the summer we
discovered these at an antique
co-op...a pile of treasures
in a shallow cardboard box.

When we "journey" through
shops we look under, behind...inside

Some dealers have left-over
collections or a few scraps they
may have gotten in an auction lot.
They'll stick a low price on
just to move them...

Be sure to click on the photos

A Sweet Read for Generations...

BABY BALLADS
For the Little Ones by Uno

Eighty pages in this book...
41 Illustration plates...I've attached a few~
The left page is a full rhyme...
sweet, tender~ innocent.
The right hand side
holds these lovely illustrations.

If you can find a copy of this...
It is a treasure!
How grateful to have something
so dear from 1877.

Wind Gifts...

These two sweet treasures
blew from their perches
with Ike's 60mph+ gusts.
A friend wondered where I
was going to store ONE MORE
birds nest.
:) There's always room!

Sunday was hot n' humid...high 80's.
Very odd for us to have that warm of a day
in mid September.
With fans all on high...87 degrees in the house~
the winds came in around midnight.
The wind was "above the trees."
We rarely felt air come in the windows.
It was a very scary night.
Power was gone within minutes.
If Ike was that fierce to us way up here
in Upstate New York...
I cannot imagine what folks in the
South experience during these storms.
We're keeping all of you in our prayers!

Nola! The Orange Backs are Coming!

Hi Nola! My Texas friend...
Be watching!
We haven't seen a Monarch butterfly
dancing about for a while now...
If they didn't come out on this
hot & humid day~
We're sure they're on their journey...
We miss them dearly~ but know you'll
be enjoying their company soon!

Let us know!

Birds of a Feather...

These are from all around the world!

I wanted to share a few of the stamps that
I'll be adding to my next round of handcrafted
gift tags & bookmarks...these are from my piles n' piles
of bird stamps...hmmmm something about birds!
If you click on the photo it
should give you a larger view!

Have some deadlines to work through...
So the tags will take me a bit~

I'll share pictures of the finished tags soon!

Cecropia Moth...

Fuzzy, light brown/taupe cocoon 4" long.

We had to gently move it to a safer location...
We put a quarter next to it on the paper plate.

It loved this small piece of bark mulch~

We had a fun visitor!
With a little bit of research...we know it's a
Cecropia moth (Hyalophora cecropia)
Some where in our "pre-digital" photo collection
we also have a picture of how beautiful (and HUGE)
they are when mature...I'll add it when I find it~
If you search it up on line & hit "images" at the top
you'll see photos of this beautiful moth.

Window Ledges...

This would be the perfect spot for one of our cats to take a warm morning nap...

This would be the perfect spot for a row of green tomatoes to ripen...

This would be the perfect spot for a row of zinnia arrangements in antique ink bottles...

This would be the perfect spot for a row of Cinderella pumpkins~ all different shades...

This would be the perfect spot for a row of antique spools with vintage lace...

This would be the perfect spot for a row of narrow clay vessels filled with paint brushes...

This would be the perfect spot for a row of antique blue canning jars casting aqua shadows...

This would be the perfect spot for a row of small jars filled with a vivid collection of colored pencils...

This would be the perfect place for a basket of seed packets, garden trowel~ a clay pot with a bright red geranium reflecting back into the glass...

Simple.
Beautiful.

Tree Mushrooms...

One of my favorite past times as a child, was to sit in trees. I can only assume it is because I am so short...perhaps being tall for a few hours was some form of reverse psychology. (smile) I had one favorite spot that hung over a meandering creek. These tree mushrooms grew along the bottom. They made the perfect foothold~ the boost I needed to even reach the first branch! I could have designed the first "fun" rock walls in 1979 if I would have sketched & marketed this idea! hee hee~ Anyhow...one day a huge mushroom broke off. At first I put a pout on thinking I was becoming too big to climb trees. Then I pressed my nail into it to check the texture etc. ~ and viola! ART! I always carried a pocketful of necessities. (never faired well on laundry day...sorry, mom) A few nails. String. Marbles. Old coins. Spearmint lifesavers (that's a whole 'nother story)...So I slipped the mushroom into the back of my pants, (ewwie thought as an adult) finished my way to my favorite spot, pulled out one of my old rusty nails and began to carve. What fun! They sat perfect on the side that was attached to the tree...so I kept them on a limb close to the trunk...a small "pocket" of sorts. My first sketchbook was a collection of tree mushrooms in an old leaning tree. Needless to say, after a few days I had to find a new foothold. I had chipped all of the tree mushrooms off and carted them to higher grounds for a higher purposes. With a hammer in my back pocket, several of dads HUGE nails & some scrap 2x4's I was off to build a new path to my favorite branch...and my private studio limb.
Wouldn't it be fun to revisit that tree? I wonder if another young person ever found it to be the most wonderful secret place.
My hubby found these tree mushrooms along the canal for me...I haven't taken a carving "nail" to them yet...they are treasures!
Hope you have a wonderful day...

Shoe Shine...

Several months ago I was in Seneca Falls visiting Sherry's Bear...a wonderful little frame shop~ filled with neat antique treasures and Sherry's hand made mohair teddy bears. (She has loads of Michelle Palmer framed prints~ does a gorgeous job!) After spending part of the day around the neat historic town, we took a skip over to Waterloo...where we had to stop at Nugent Hardware Store. Floor to ceiling finds! Tucked in a corner...covered with some antique crates...this shoe shine! It had a worn n' torn fabric covering...with a little bit of TLC~ some scraps n' polish, I thought this would make a great footstool in our living room. It was fun to reupholster...but is too tall for a footstool. When our "in-house" bass guitarist needs to keep a leg up~ it works perfect!
We're still on the search for the stylish...& ADORABLE...footstool.

Mr. Guss....

One of our dearest friends...
I have had a few pets that go down in history as the best on the planet.
Guss was our first child.
I'm sure he was part-dog. He had expression. He had personality...and one friend looked at him once, as he was "reaching to be picked up" (just like a toddler does...arms up!) and said, "he has a man-face." So from then on...his own little inside joke~
Sir Man Face
We did treat him like a little prince...in his own quirky way~ he'd find the "homeless cats" version of a bed...pile of newspapers...pile of dirty laundry...paper grocery bag...shoe box~~~
Most importantly, our laps.

Harvest Crimson & Gold...

They're just as yummy as they look!
They'll paint-up nice, too~

The wasps have begun to take over the humming bird feeders.
I want to keep the little friends nourished~
but the bees swarm the feeders in blankets!
If they were honey bees I'd let them be at home...
Yellow Jackets & Paper Wasps (same thing?) they are able to sting several times in a row...and I don't think they die! (That sounded harsh!) :) A wasp got behind my glasses~ stung me 3 times... I was looking quite lovely as the evening progressed...made me love Quasimodo even more!

Hope you're enjoying the orchard harvests...beezzz n' all!
