Watercolor study of bird eggs~

We had a stormy day with sleet & freezing rain~
It would get dark in the studio...
So I put a load of laundry in.
It would brighten up~ I would paint!
Dark again...
I would fold some clothes!

Just enough waves of light to finish my collection of bird eggs!

I cannot claim that they are scientifically accurate~
I can say they are based on notes I have taken through the years.
Based on 27 of my favorite birding books...
Based on sketches drawn from eggs found in our birdhouses~
Identifying the eggs by the birds that flew out!
Based on some sketches I have made at museums & nature centers.

I stopped climbing trees to look in nests for eggs~
The neighbors would be concerned if they saw that!

My husband would be concerned if he saw that!

Our son just returned home from a tour of the United Kingdom
with his high school select choir group.
He had an amazing time... wants to go as a family soon.
He told me I would LOVE the birds!
I know I would be captivated by it ALL~
They would be lovely tour guides!

I have listed a few of these in my Etsy shop...
Hope to add prints of my watercolors to the shop soon.
I will share about it here when I do!

Feathered friends hard at work...
Eastern Bluebirds are putting in long hours building the
perfect nest in one of our bluebird houses~
Our landscape is still rather dull so their brilliant blue
catches our attention as they dash about!
They love to perch in the tippy top of a baby maple tree!

Hope your day is filled with pleasant visits~

  1. Oh how I love these! So much so that I had to run over to Etsy and buy one :) since Spring is slow to arrive here in Chicago I think this painting will help get me in the mood while I wait.
